Raise the Bar (in your Retreat)

Yup...that's it! My "retreat"...well...ok...my bed...the "retreat" part never really got finished...notice the teal green carpets???? We got as far as painting the walls to match LOL Anyhow...the challenge at Raise the Bar this week is to make a card/project inspired by your own bedroom retreat. So, here's my card using Red & Gold, inspired by the colors of my room.

It was really hard to get a good shot of this card. I used a pile of those gold outline stickers for the butterflies and they're so shiny the camera didn't like them LOL You could also get this effect with gold embossing powder, but I still haven't retrieved my heat gun from my customer LOL.

Please join in the fun at Raise the Bar this week...yours truly gets to pick the winner this week!

Color Dare

This week's Color Dare features some old favorites: Baja Blue, Kiwi Kiss, Pumpkin Pie and Ruby Red. Red & Green without Christmas??? Well, that just says "hummingbird" to me, so I decided to break out Spring Song...which I've had for months and not even mounted! I watercolored it first and then went over some areas with matching markers for more depth of color. The only Baja Blue I've used is the shadow around the image. I have to say, I am really glad they are bringing back Riding Hood Red & Baja Breeze...I will miss Kiwi Kiss tho...

Now, the funny part...because I usually work ahead on my DT projects, this card was done two weeks ago...and I used a sketch...but oopsy...I couldn't post it until now, so I missed the sketch challenge deadline...Oh well...It was Card Patterns Sketch 60.

Sketches! {by Tamara} Journaling Challenge

This marks my last post as a Design Team member at Sketches! {by Tamara} :( I wish I had more time to stay on this team as working on the scrap pages for this site have really forced me out of my comfort zone...which is card making. HOWEVER, as you know, I went back to work full time and I just don't have enough time to keep up with all of the teams I was committed to...so this is the first one I'm going to let go since my term is up.

This month's journal challenge is to make a page about 5 things you can't live without. I decided to immortalize 5 of the crafty things I can't imagine giving up:

  • STAMPS -digi, rubber, clear, mounted, unmounted...ANY
  • Spellbinders - it scares me to add up what that seemingly tiny little box of Spellbinders dies actually cost!!! There are over 20 sets in there...you do the math.
  • Punches - they're just so useful! And pretty all in a row on their racks :)
  • Cuttlebug - well, you need SOMETHING to use your nesties in!
  • Ink/ink pad holder - I got this lovely inkpad wall shelf for Christmas. It's from SUINK & More and I love it... paper, refill and marker all together...GENIUS! Now if I could just get the thing mounted on the wall!
Thanks for checking in today. I hope you've enjoyed my little break from the norm with my term on the Sketches team.

OMG I'm so brain dead! Corrosive Challenge

The challenge at Corrosive this week is to use a "charm" on your card. I swear...I did 4 cards before I finally was able to bring myself to use this winter charm...all I have are winter charms and some monograms...and the monograms just weren't working for me. Then I did the whole Corrosive Challenge blog post for today, forgot someone's card, and then totally forgot to put up my own blog post! How long can I blame this on baby brain? This card is really lacking something...I don't know what, but I guess I just wasn't in the mood to do Christmas/Winter stuff.

Also, I totally forgot to announce what my movie card for Raise the Bar was last week... yes, it was Anne of Green Gables...the one movie I have to watch any time I see it on TV...even if I have to sit through the PBS telethon crap LOL Anyhow Susan, you're the first person to guess it, so I've got a little package for you!

Raise the Bar...hmmm...and what color is your bar???

The challenge at Raise the Bar this week is to use shade of your favorite color...choosing just one color was hard for me. I always say that purple is my favorite color, but honestly, I like red, orange and apple green just as much! Anyhow, I went with purple and pulled out my favorite "color" stamp...I love making animals funny colors to go with this sentiment. I've used Razzleberry, Lilac, Orchid and Lavender on this card...probably not a combo I'll ever replicate LMBO. So...what's YOUR favorite color?

Color Dare

Well. This is a STRETCH for me :) I'm not really much for techniques...nor for the "vintage" look...and this is kind of both...I don't really know what hit me today LOL. I think this is some version of the Joseph's Coat technique... maybe JanTink's "inside out"...I'm not really sure.  Anyhow...I started by inking up my much neglected Paisley background stamp in Summer Sun. I stamped it on Very Vanilla...not glossy white as I didn't have any. Then I overstamped with Sanded background in Old Olive. I stamped the Medallion in Versamark and embossed in clear (a feat in itself since I left my heat gun at a customer's house...I held it over my stove burner LOL). Finally, I brayered Certainly celery ink over the whole thing. In person you can see the Paisley pattern a bit and it has a great, mottled look about it.

So, this week's Color Dare is Summer Sun, Old Olive, Certainly Celery and Very Vanilla. What will you do with these fabulous summery colors?

Sketches! {by Tamara}

Here's my card for this week's sketch over at Sketches! {by Tamara}. It's a really simple one...although I left off one little strip/ribbon. It's a great way to use up some small scraps of paper...in fact, I think I'll make some of these as card sets and REALLY use up some scraps :)

Corrosive Challenge

This week's challenge at Corrosive Challenge is paper piercing. It's not something I do all that often...usually when I'm CASEing a card that has it LOL Anyhow, I was working on this scrap ribbon card inspired by my latest Paper Craft magazine and thought I would pierce around the sentiment... so, I know you can't see it, but the holes in between the rhinestones are pierced. I would love to see some new ideas for piercing...show me whatcha got!

Color Q

Yup...another card for a challenge I'm not on the DT for! I think I got 8 cards made today and this is the second one that was just for fun. Arielle over at Color Q always has fabulous color combos to try and I just couldn't resist this one. I grabbed a scrap of watercolor paper out of my bin by mistake and decided I would try wet stamping today. I sprayed the paper with a mist of water and then stamped my flower in the four colors while it was still wet...I think the effect is really cool.

A Playdate with INKTEGRITY

This card is for two challenges...and I'm not on the DT for either one! OH MY...I found time to craft for FUN and not just for an assignment! I've missed playing along in some of the challenges out there. This card is for the Playdate Cafe color splash challenge: Black & white with a splash of one other color (Yellow in my case). As well, I used the Inktegrity Hump Day Inspiration Sketch for this week...great excuse to practice coloring with my 8 shades of Touch markers again LOL.

ETA...well shoot....I forgot...I was supposed to use Orange for the Playdate Color splash...darnit!

Raise the Bar (and grab some popcorn, too)

Mmmmm...popcorn...Ooooohhhhh I can SMELL it! I need some popcorn to go watch my favorite movie because this week's Raise the Bar challenge is to be inspired by your favorite movie! Hmmm....I don't think I'm going to tell you what movie I've been inspired by...I wanna see who can guess... and the first person to guess right will get a little prize from me! Hmmm...you say...that's pretty wide open? Yeah...ok...here's a bitty clue..."carrots" LMBO :)

So...what's your favorite movie? How can you be inspired to make a card from that movie??? Let's see! Join in the fun at Raise the Bar this week.

Oooops....Forgot to Post my Color Dare!

Tee Hee. I forgot to post my Color Dare card for this week! So here it is...the colors this week were Pale Plum, Lovely Lilac and Tempting Turquoise. Whenever I need something quick, I pull out Circle Circus...it works for just about ANY color combo!

Sketches! {by Tamara}

This week is "recipe" challenge at Sketches! {by Tamara} and our recipe was Blue, Brads and Buttons! That was harder than I thought it would be...it was hard to find space for buttons and brads on the same card, I thought. Anyhow, I ended up making three versions of this card because I liked the papers sooo much. This image is also perfect for paper piecing, so I cut out a second "lady" and popped her up on the couch with pop dots to give it some dimension...it just looks great in person.

Show us your Blue, Brads and Buttons over at Sketches! {by Tamara} this week.

Corrosive Challenge...a bit late

I'm late...again...this week has been full of migraines and I just couldn't get any pain-free time to get a card finished... Anyhow... this one is quite plain & simple...the sentiment on the inside reads "When I grow up I want to be just like you." I thought it would be a cute 'red hatter' card, so did it in red & razzleberry.  The challenge this week at Corrosive Challenges is to add some texture to your card. I went the easy route and embossed with my cuttlebug...I can't wait to get my hands on some of those 5x7 sized folders so you can do a whole card easier! Join in the fun with some texture this week over at Corrosive Challenges.

Raise the Bar--Spring is HERE!

Ok...well, I'm posting this nearly a month ahead...but I'm assuming spring will be here by the time it is published :) The theme this week at Raise the Bar is "Spring" and I dug out another unused High Hopes stamp, but this time it's one of the cute little bees. Nothing says spring like gardening, right? Join in the fun at Raise the Bar this week and help us welcome Spring!

Corrosive Sketch Day

Happy Easter!

Today's challenge at Corrosive Challenge is a sketch. It's a really simple one and I thought it was just perfect for sending out wallet pics to family. I love how all the "black space" just really makes the picture stand out. It's simple enough that you could do a pile of them pretty quickly...say for birth announcements? Engagements? Christmas? And people wouldn't have to ruin a "piece of art" to keep the photo in their wallet if they wanted to LOL

Join in the fun this week at Corrosive Challenge and show us what you can do with this simple sketch. This month's prize is:

5 digi stamps from Di's digi downloads
1 magnolia stamp
1 package of chipboard pieces

Raise the Weather Vane!

The challenge this week at Raise the Bar is a 'weather' theme. In an effort to use some stamps I've not yet touched, I once again reached for a new stamp that I've had sitting for a while...this High Hopes Willard the Weather Ant. These ants are what attracted me to High Hopes last summer...they're just sooo darn cute...I mean look at those rain boots! Anyhow... here's my rainy day ant card...haven't decided what sentiment I'll use yet, but I have several great ones for the inside of this card. Come check out the Raise the Bar Challenge this week and take the opportunity to use up some of that never ending "stash" :)
