Let's Get Moving @ Corrosive Challenge

Today's challenge at Corrosive Challenge is something that moves...well...whether you take that to mean that your card has to physically move in some way, or the image is something that moves, there are lots of options. Today I got to work with an image from our fabulous sponsor Shirley's 2 Girls. I sure hope that goldfish can move! This layout is from Friday Sketchers.

It's a Black, Black Friday at Paper Makeup Stamps

Happy (belated) Black Friday, to all my US friends... we don't really get the same excitement happening here in Canada around this weekend. Probably because we've been Christmas shopping for a month already as our Thanksgiving was in October. The best sales we will get will be the ones we can take advantage of from the US LOL. Lisa asked the Makeup Artists to make a shopping themed card for this week's Makeup 4 the Weekend, and throw in a little black if you can. I used a purse & sentiment from the Everything a Girl Needs bundle. That purse is just MADE for paper piecing! This layout is for the FTL118.

Heartfelt Creations New Release Day

There's a new release in town and it's gonna knock your socks off! This beautiful die cut is part of the new Create a Window Scene collection Heartfelt Creations will be releasing on Friday Today the HCDC design team are all featuring this incredible new collection and you will be amazed an inspired by the projects on the blog. Living in Canada has a few "cons" and one of them is the mail can take forever to get here from the US. So, while my fellow team mates have had this to play with for a couple of weeks, I only got mine a couple of days ago and only go the one project done on time.

To create this card, I stamped the background image in Cherry Cobbler on a 4 x 4 inch square of white and set it aside. I cut & embossed the window die on white and laid it down on a 4 x 5.25 piece of Cherry Cobbler. I used a pen to trace the inside of the window die onto the cherry cobbler (colors are different in my tutorial pics, sorry if that confuses you):

Then I cut out around the lines, about 1/8 of an inch on the outside of the line to make sure it wouldn't peek out around the frame edges. I had to go back and clean them up a bit in a couple of spots. When I was done, it looked like this:

Then I glued the embossed frame onto the mat, creating this:

And here's what it looked like on the back side:

Then I simply added foam tape all around the window and carefully positioned it over my stamped image. I added some tape to the back of the image and stuck the whole piece down on the white card base. Using the foam tape gives just enough space between the die cut and the stamped scene to really make it feel "window-like". I added some lace, flowers & a hat pin to finish as I wan't sure what sentiment I wanted to put on it LOL

This collection goes on sale Friday at 12:01 am! And that's Black Friday so there's sure to be lots of people out shopping online...get yours fast!

Raise the Bar is Grateful this week!

Joni wanted us to make a "grateful" card at Raise the Bar to celebrate Thanksgiving (US) and as per usual, I was trying to combine this with the Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge for today, but I forgot to use digi paper :( Oooops... oh yea...and no I'm out. I did, however, follow the Sweet Sunday Sketch 93 for this week. These are the awesome Hugging Fairies from PMS that I'm just inking up for the first time (YIKES).

And see that fabby dabby flower? I made that all bys mys lonesome! It's one of the Cuttlebug Quilling sets and I {heart} it. I just need to remember to bring it out and use it more.

Today is my big day at work! The Scotiabank Keep a Roof Over Their Heads Radiothon is on 96.5 KOOL FM from 6am - 6pm today. If you're from away, you can listen in on your computer at the station's website.

Heartfelt Creations Day

Today's Heartfelt Creations Designs card was inspired by something I saw in a recent magazine, and the Color Throwdown last week....I got the colors a bit I didn't enter it. The ornaments are stamped in Tangerine Tango, Bermuda Bay and Cherry Cobbler. The sentiment is from Cardinal Holiday Mailbox and the ornaments are from Fancy Ornament and Ornament Medallions.

And here's your bonus card for today... another great scrappy one...use up some of those itty bitty Christmas scraps with the Holly Ornament die.

Super simple...just cut a bunch of ornaments, run through your Xyron and adhere, then run the whole panel through the Cuttlebug with the Plaid embossing folder.

We're getting closer to the Heartfelt Creations new week come back to see the new Create a Window Scene are going to love this new die & coordinating stamp sets. There will be a great Black Friday sale to celebrate too!

Color Throwdown

So I'm about to make this card when I realize I'm pulling out colors that sound I look and sure enough, I was working on the Color Throwdown for this week: Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede and Kraft (SU Crumb Cake). I was CASEing something I saw in an old magazine. The image, sentiment and border die are all from Heartfelt Creations Designs.

Corrosive Sketch Day

And here's my take on this week's Corrosive Challenge Sketch!

My office mate is a horse jumper, so I decided to break out my dusty ol Giddyupabella to make a card for the next time she needs cheering up. Don't forget, this month's sponsor at Corrosive is Shirley's 2 Girls and you could win some fabulous digi images if you play along!

A Pedophile's Guide to Love & Pleasure

Amazon has pulled this book! But the fact that they defend their right to sell it...I will never buy from them again. NEVER! And they are still selling "Understanding Boy Lovers"! This is not the first time...they have sold guides to smuggling drugs and video games about Rape. This is disgusting!

Please scroll down for current posts.
The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure
YUP... I knew that would get your attention.

Ok everyone...I don't ask you to do much...but I cannot stand by and let this go! is selling this book and defending its right to do so! I don't generally "do" boycotts...but this...well... this has to be stopped. Please pass the word... the Twitter hashtag is #boycottamazon of course... I've posted on Facebook, too.

Now my first thought was "How the heck did he get this crap published?" Apparently it is self-published. So Amazon really had to choose to sell's not like they had a deal with a publisher that they had to honor no matter what they brought to the table.

I was seriously considering a Kindle for Christmas...I'll be looking elsewhere. And I hope you will too!

OH! Baby!

Today my Raise the Bar Challenge card is a baby card for the PMS Baby Shower for Ginger. Congratulations Ginger on the new addition to your family! If you just came from Tina's blog you're on the right track...if not, please go to the PMS Blog to start from the beginning so you can read all about the big celebration for Makeup Artist Ginger! Now, hop along to Tangii's blog to see what she's got in store for you...and don't forget to stop by Ginger's blog, too and leave her some congratulatory love! Oh yes, and this card uses Sweet Stop Sketch 81!

Heartfelt Creations Day

Every once in a while I like to try something in non-traditional colors... like Melon Mambo and Tempting Turquoise for Christmas! These gorgeous ornament stamps are from Heartfelt Creations Designs. They have a matching Spellbinders die, too! These ornaments are from Fancy Ornament and Ornament Medallion sets. Oh...and the snowflake background on the bottom is from them, too.

And here are a couple of bonus cards I made this week...soooo simple. These ones are great for using up small scraps of designer papers and are easy to mass-produce...think Teacher's Gifts, swap cards, or your entire Christmas card project. This Merry Christmas Sentiment is part of the Cardinal Holiday Mailbox set.

Don't forget, the new release of the Window Scene Collection is coming on November 25th, with Black Friday sales to celebrate! Hop on over to the Heartfelt Creations Blog to see some sneaks!

Doodle Pantry Challenge

A little change from all the Christmas & Thanksgiving projects I've been working on. I seem to have a lot of baby things going on lately, so I'm really glad to have a chance to play with this new image from Doodle Pantry this week. I think the sheep are overtaking the ants as my favorite images from Doodle Pantry. Laurie has moved her challenge to a new blog and renamed it Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge and this week is the first one! Even better, if you participate in the challenge you will get this sheep image for free! How's that for a sweet deal?

Christmas Tree Ruby

About a month ago, I was one of the lucky winners on the Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps blog hop and I won this awesome Christmas Tree Ruby stamp :) I thought it only fitting that I use it to play along at the Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps Challenge, and Sparkle's Christmas Card Challenge. This week she is borrowing a sketch from Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge, so it's a bonus...two challenges in one card! My only regret about this card is that I don't have a Merry Christmas sentiment that is the size of the one I used...I much prefer to say "Merry Christmas" over "Happy Holidays"...oh well... is that a good excuse to buy more stamps?

Corrosive Challenge & PMS Blog Hop--My Grownup Christmas Wish List

So are you loving the new PMS releases this month? I know I say it every month, but I really am this month :) Wasn't Lisa K's Sugarplum Fairy divine? If you didn't start there, make sure you stop by the PMS Blog  to start the hop from the beginning so you can see all the new releases! Don't forget to join us tonite on the PMS Forum at 8 CST (did you remember to change your clocks???) for all the fun of the release party.

This sentiment is sooooo me! It makes me think of that song "My Grown Up Christmas Wish". Seriously...I want an end to homelessness and poverty, drug addictions and mental illness, to keep girls and women free of violence and to end this idiotic belief "we" have that rail-thin, air brushed, made up, distorted "models" are what is beautiful. WHEW...that was a little bit of a rant, wasn't it? LOL I truly want all those things more than I want another box of socks, or chocolates, or even clothes... ok...maybe just one chocolate?  This word art just speaks to me and the work I do every day at the YWCA Halifax.

Now, the challenge today at Corrosive Challenge is Black & Blue. This awesome Bella Blvd. paper was the perfect choice to mesh these two challenges for today.

One more thing before you head over to Ginger's blog... my letter for you today is "E"... you need that for your 15% discount code on all the new releases this month.

OK....FAIR WARNING... the PMS Post is done and if you keep reading you're going to see a personal side of me that I've not yet shared on my blog. So...if you just came for the card, go ahead and hop along to the next person now...I won't be mad, I promise. However, if I struck a chord in the above paragraph, please read on. When I started writing this post up an hour ago, I really didn't plan on "going there", but well, things have a way of writing themselves out on a blog, now, don't they?
The one thing I DO want for Christmas this year is a goat. Yup... I want someone to buy me a goat. Well, not for me, really, but for a woman in another country, so that she can feed her family. If you think I'm crazy, please click here for the Oxfam program (there are other programs that do this). But, if you consider the internet an on-line store...well, then this doesn't really fit the sentiment does it?

But, it does bring up an interesting topic that is near and dear to me... how do you share the wealth at Christmas? There are so many programs to choose from. I've always been a bit of an underdog supporter (mental health, arthritis, now the YWCA). There's something about supporting a charity that doesn't have huge numbers of donors throwing money at you that appeals to me. I feel like my money is doing more somehow.

For the past couple of years we have supported a family at Christmas through our church. These were families that couldn't get support in other ways...they were falling through the cracks. We're going to do it again this year, but we're going to support a family from the YWCA Halifax HERizons program. This is a program for single mothers who are attending post-secondary education and were either homeless or in immediate danger of becoming homeless. YES....I said homeless single mothers! We have women in our community (and around the world, yes, I know), who are living with their kids in their cars, couch surfing, or worse...on the street. NOBODY should have to be homeless...but a single mother? KIDS??? I think about my two daughters upstairs in their nice warm beds, with their full bellies, and it makes me sick to think of what these women have had to overcome. At least I know that when I go to work everyday, I am helping them, and women like them who WILL come to us for help.

So...that's how I share the wealth at Christmas. Don't go thinking I'm some rich person, either. We do alright, but we're no Trump family. I believe in making a donation that is "sacrificial"...of consequence to hurts a little...or maybe it stretches a little. If it doesn't "hurt" a little, then you know there was room to do more. why am I telling you all of this? I don't really know, but it sure felt good to get it all off my chest. I don't expect to change anyone's mind about how they celebrate Christmas, or whether or not they donate to charity, but if I did, then BONUS! I guess maybe I was hoping just to make you think about it a bit more...where your donations are going. Are you really giving to a cause you believe in? Or is it just the cause du jour?  I want people to give to a cause they BELIEVE in...not just the first one, or fifth one they were asked to give to. Of course, I always hope to convince people that the work of the YWCA is a cause to believe in :)

There is soooo much more I could say about all this. But I'm going to stop here...and I'm sure if you've made it this far, you're glad of that. The last thing I'm going to do is ask you to tune in to KOOL 96.5 FM on Friday November 19, from 6am - 6pm AST to hear the Scotiabank Keep a Roof Over Their Heads Radiothon in support of the YWCA Halifax. Yup... a shameless plug. And if you're not local, then you can listen in on the station's website through your computer...maybe you're just curious to hear what my voice sounds like? Or you want to learn more about the programs I work for? It's all good...just come and listen.

A CASE Study in Blues (and silver & white)

There seem to be a lot of challenges for blue this week... So I've been playing with the blues :) First up, a couple of Flourishes cards for their November release challenge "Warm Winter Wishes". So far, this is the only Flourishes Christmas set I have (OMG), but it lends itself quite easily to CAS cards, which are fabulous for mailing...and mass production at Christmas.

I started with this one...silver embossing on Night of Navy c/s and the mat is white. But...hmmm...I just wasn't quite happy with the end result. I added a couple of tiny little stars by the sentiment (LOOOVE that script), but I decided to try again.

I like this version better. No bling...just ink & sponging with a simple bow. Hard to tell in this pic, but the mat on this one is actually silver paper. This one I'm entering at Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge this week as well.

And then, keeping with the blue, white & silver theme, I decided to play along at CASE Study. The inspiration card this week was perfect for using up some scraps of paper (not that I have a problem with scraps!) I'm also entering these cards at the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger, my blues aren't quite as vibrant, but they're still blue :)

Heartfelt Creations Altered Frame

Yup...that's right...I did an altered frame! I know, I know...pick your jaw up off the floor...I am stunned too :) I don't generally like my "altered" ambitions well enough to show them on here, but this one I do quite fact, I like it enough that I'll have to make another one because I'm committed to sending this one to Heartfelt Creations as part of my contract with them LOL Doesn't that just figure? I finally make something I like and I have to give it away!

Products Used:
HCPC 3351 Cardinal with Holly Berries
HCD 706 Cardinal Family Die Cuts

To cover frame, I cut the paper to fit and ahered with Tombow multi-glue...but make sure you don't put on too much and spread it around evenly or your paper will pucker and bubble! Once the glue had dried, I used a craft knife to slice the hole out of the middle of the frame. Then I lined the inside edge of the picture hole with red line tape, allowing the tape to fold over onto the front of the frame. I put three colors of glass beads in an embossing tray and laid the frame inside to cover the tape with beads. Gently press the beads into the tape so they don't just fall off.

For the inside, I cut a piece of patterned paper to fit the hole, and found that it was too "loud" so I covered it with a piece of vellum to soften the look. Stamp the cardinal & color as desired. Cut with the die cut. Adhere to the vellum with foam dots. I finished it off with some velvet flowers in the corners.

Heartfelt Creations will be releasing the Create a Window Scene Collection on Thursday, Nov. 25 at 12 Midnight. As a special thank you to our customers we will be offering some amazing "Black Friday Deals" on this must-have collection! I have seen it and it's GOJUS!
