New Toys

So, I went to Carousel Rubber Stamps in Dartmouth the other day...just to pick up some 6x6 square envelopes for a class I was having...but lo and behold...Deja had these gorgeous ribbon weaving punches in stock. My jaw nearly hit the floor as I didn't think I could get them locally and they cost a fortune on-line. So, for a mere $14, I got this beautiful punch. Now, I'll warn you, before you run over to CRS and buy your own...it is HARD to punch through cardstock. I ended up doing this card on the floor and using my heel to punch it! Deja did tell me I would probably have to do that. Doing it on the floor works ok, but it does make it hard to line everything up perfectly...maybe next time I'm there I'll ask her for a tip on that. Anyhow, she had beautiful cards with these borders punched around them, and little gems/crystals in the centre, so I was inspired to use up some old gems I had sitting around to make this card. The card is made with Purely Pomegranite and Always Artichoke. Now I just have to figure out how to do the ribbon weaving with it...and how to keep it straight!

Cuttlebug Fever!

This is one of the cards we'll be making at tonight's Cuttlebugging Your Cards class. I wanted to use my Cuttlekids dies, so I came up with the crab card...stole the "snappy birthday" from an SU set, of course. I think the google eyes on the crabs are just too cute! This card uses Cuttlekids dies, Nestabilities dies & embossing, and a Cuttlebug embossing folder...is there anything else you could do? I'm not really sure :)

As an aside, thank you to anyone who supported the Wee Care on-line auction. It was a huge success and raised over $15,000 for a very special day care centre. We're so pleased that we already know we'll be doing this again next year and are already thinking about how to make it even better. Watch for more info here on my blog next year :)

Celebrating a Fabulous Person

I volunteered to make a card for a special presentation this week...to a person I cannot name, just in case ;) Since this might be the only stamping I get done this week, I thought I'd better post it quick, while I have time before heading off to another auction committee meeting. Oops...I just realized I took the photo before doodling around the main image...I'm going to add that because you all know I love my doodles.

I knew I wanted to use a hat pin on this card because I've got a ton of them from the Pretties kit, but I don't like to try to mail them because I think you'd need a padded envelope just to be safe. So, this seemed like a good time to use one because the card won't be mailed!

The main image is stamped with Versamark and embossed with white powder. I then sponged Chocolate Chip on the flowers to give it some dimension. There is a card on SCS that gave me this idea. The small silk flower is sponged with Really Rust chalk, which makes it match the Groovy Guava papers quite nicely, I think. I had to stamp the sentiment twice to make it fit in the hodgepodge oval.

I quite like how my first hat pin card turned out and I think she will like it too.

No Cards this week, but a Plea for Help!

Hi everyone,

I haven't done a single bit of stamping this week...not one bit! I've been totally overwhelmed getting my daughters' daycare auction up and running instead. If you're reading this, you've probably got a few minutes of free time :) Would you take a couple of those free minutes and check out our on-line auction? WE have some fabulous items and it's all for a great cause. Wee Care is a non-profit daycare that provides specialized services for children with special needs...my daughter Elizabeth included. They say that "Kids are all the Same"...but I like to add, "Daycares are NOT!". Please help if you can.

Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge

I thought about it all night...every time I rolled over, I said "I will do challenges tomorrow"...and I am! YAY! I'm being creative again and not just caseing everything :) This is my second challenge this morning and it's only lunch time! For this one I decided to use some of the Summer Picnic paper that I haven't touched much. It's really nice paper, but I'm a bit of a paper hoarder and find it hard to use sometimes. Anyhow, it seemed to call to me for this sketch on Beate's blog. And since today is my sister-in-law's birthday and I haven't yet sent a card...guess what...it's a belated b-day card for her :)

Now, I just need a girly card for the party my DD has to attend tomorrow and then I can nap for the afternoon!

Limited Supplies Challenge on SCS

When I saw today's LSC I got the idea to make a scalloped card with my Nestabilities...I only wish they were a tad bigger.

I folded a regular sized card in Tempting Turquoise and placed the scallop die so that a bit of one side would be left in tact (the fold). It worked perfectly and even embossed the edges a bit, too, which I outlined with the white gel pen. I added more gel pen to the brads on the big flower, for dimension, and the alternating stamen dots. I used the black marker to make the doodle lines on the white mat and the green mat.

For the sentiment, I stamped each word individually so that they would follow the line of the circle better.

I think it makes a cute gift card.
